New Superman Movie Review (2025): A Fresh Start for the Man of Steel

🚨 Spoiler Warning: This Blog Contains Key Plot Details from the New Superman Movie

I Just Watched the New Superman Movie — And Here’s What I Thought

I couldn’t miss this one. Superman has always been one of my favorite superheroes. He’s the original, the one that set the standard for every hero that came after. So when a new Superman movie dropped, especially one tied to James Gunn’s vision for the DC universe, I had to be there.

I’m a longtime Superman fan. I grew up loving the Christopher Reeve films from the 1980s, and that version of the character still sticks with me. In the comics, Superman has one of the richest, most iconic origin stories in superhero history. I didn’t go in with sky-high expectations, though. I knew Gunn was hitting the reset button on the DC universe, so I expected something different and was open to a fresh take.

My First Impressions

I really enjoyed it.

This was a bold, refreshing version of Superman. It grabbed my attention from the start and didn’t let go. The pacing was great, and the movie had a nice balance of humor and emotional depth. It kept things fun but still grounded.

What impressed me most was how Gunn approached the challenge of portraying Superman. He’s a tough character to get right, especially because he’s nearly invincible. That can make it hard to feel like he’s ever in real danger. But this film handled it head-on. From the beginning, Superman felt vulnerable. It removed the idea that he’s untouchable and made him feel more human and relatable. I appreciated that.

A Solid Superman

David Corenswet absolutely nailed the role. His performance captured everything I want to see in Clark Kent—strength, kindness, and a quiet sense of inner conflict. It didn’t feel like a copy of past portrayals, but it still respected the core of who Superman is.

One twist I didn’t see coming was the idea that Superman’s Kryptonian parents wanted him to rule over Earth. That added a powerful layer to the story. It gave Clark a deep moral conflict between the world he came from and the values of the people who raised him. In the end, he chose to follow the lessons taught by the Kents, which made for a powerful message.

Story and Surprises

The story held up really well from beginning to end. It was fast-moving, filled with action, and had a lot of heart. There were a few moments that needed clarification—like the part involving the dog—but everything came together by the end.

The movie wasn’t afraid to take risks, and I respect that. It wasn’t trying to rehash the past. It was clearly a new beginning, and I think Gunn pulled it off.

Final Rating

8.5 out of 10.

This was a strong, confident new chapter for Superman. It was fresh, emotional, and fun without losing the essence of who Superman is. If this is the tone for what’s to come in the DC universe, I’m on board.
